Tree with birds
China with unglazed ceramic tiles. This mosaic was inspired by some lovely Portmeirion tea plates I bought at a flea market. I've combined them here with Hornsea china for the tree truck and birds made up from the pattersn cut from tea cups to make a very mid-centrury inspired piece! Mounted on mdf. Auricula Theatre
Ceramaic and glass tiles, glass rod and Venetian millefiore. This was inspired by an Auricula Theatre I saw in the beautiful walled garden in Scampston in Yorkshire. I was amazed by the variations in these lovely little Spring flowers and it gave me a great excuse to use millefiore, which also come in the most amazing variety. Alliums
Ceramic and glass tiles, natural slate and Venetian millefiore.
This mosaic was inspired by alliums growing in my garden and leaning over gently with the weight of the flower heads and gives me an excuse (if I needed one) to use millefiore. I love the contrasting textures in this piece. I have made several variations of this mosaic, in different sizes and using different materials for the stems and the background. Although the subject is the same, each mosaic is unique and subtely different.

These come in a variety of sizes and can be made to order. They are made entirely of broken china in the 'picque assiette' style of mosaic, often incorporating commemorative ware. I was inspired to make this by a fragment of a Roman mosaic from the 1st century AD that I saw in a museum. (I want to make more pieces in this style, drawing on classical tradtion but with a contemporary twist).
