My ideas for new mosaics come from a wide range of sources - perhaps from something I find at a flea market, from new mosaic material I find, from a picture, a piece of fabric or as recently from classical Roman mosaics of animals. This page shows some things I've been working on over the past few months.

This hare is taken from a Roman mosaic - the original is on a plain background as part of a much larger floor mosaic based on a hunting theme. I decided to add of hills, sky and sun to make it a bit more interesting. I was particularly pleased with this as I felt that I had managed to capture some of the vibrancy of the original.
I like picking up pieces of old cutlery at flea markets and I've done a few pieces like those below, using old plate rims and cutlery alongside glass and unglazed porcelain tiles.
